Jackson County Circuit Judge John Torrence recently stated he will likely rule next week on allegations against Bishop Robert Finn of the Catholic Diocese of Kansas City-St.Joseph.

J.R. Hobbs, vice-president of Kansas City’s Wyrsch Hobbs & Mirakian law firm, asked Judge Torrence to dismiss charges against Bishop Finn yesterday.

Hobbs argued that Finn had no statutory duty to report to authorities the sexual abuse against young girls and boys perpetrated by Father Shawn Ratigan, who was charged with 13 counts of child pornography.

Kansas City attorney Rebecca Randles represents the victims of the five Mohler men of Lafayette County, Missouri accused of a series of bizarre sex crimes against their young family members.

Randles recently stated her great dismay and devastation when Lafayette County Prosecutor Kellie Wingate Campbell announced that her office dropped all charges against the men.

Wingate Campbell cited doubt that she could convince a jury that the bizarre claims were true.

A recent report released by the Kansas City – St. Joseph Catholic diocese detailed spending of over $1 million in a four month period defending against allegations of sexual abuse.

The report claims that the widely publicized defense of Rev. Shawn Ratigan, who has plead not guilty to allegations of sexual abuse of minors, is not being paid with diocesan funds.
