KC School Board struggles for life, extends olive branch to mayor

The Kansas City Missouri Public School District, under the guidance of Board President Airick Leonard West, is contemplating providing the Mayor of Kansas City with an advisory role on the Board.

In addition, the Board would seek a referendum electing all of the board members at-large instead of having several in-district members with some at-large as currently is the case.

The plan would feature a three-member advisory panel appointed by the mayor.  This panel would observe most of the open and closed board meetings.

New Economic Development leader named for Kansas City

Kansas City Mayor Sylvester “Sly” James, attorney at Kenner Schmitt Nygaard, LLC, announced today the new leader of the Kansas City Economic Development Corporation.

Replacing outgoing EDC president Jeff Kaczmarek, Pete Fullerton of Platte County has been lauded as a perfect fit for the position.  He will begin on April 23rd, 2012.

Fullerton is a long time business leader from Platte County and currently serves as Executive Director of the Platte County Economic Development Corporation.

Fullerton also served as Senior Project Manager for the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

Mayor-attorney declares Kansas City’s “Greatest Mission”

Kansas City Mayor Sylvester “Sly” James, Jr., a local attorney at Kenner Schmitt Nygaard, LLC, recently announced Kansas City’s Greatest Mission: to get all Kansas City children reading at their grade level by the third grade.

Citing humanitarian and economic concerns, James relies on years of longitudinal studies that reveal the importance that early childhood development plays in improving a city’s economic development and decreasing a city’s crime.

James calls Kansas City’s Greatest Mission his biggest economic priority, bigger even than Google Fiber.

Kansas City attorney Judy Heeter is coordinating the campaign.
