Prosecutors use DNA to charge inmate with 1992 robbery and rape
After nearly 20 years, a Kansas City woman received justice against the man who raped and threatened her.
It took that long for investigators to identify the suspect, now know as 43-year-old Marshall F. Darlington.
Darlington was charged by Jackson County prosecutors yesterday with first-degree robbery and two counts of rape against the Kansas City woman inside of her home on November 30th, 1992.
Darlington was already in prison serving time for an unrelated robbery when he was sentenced.
Investigators used DNA linked with the 1992 rape to connect Darlington as the assailant.
According to the Kansas City Star: “I’m thrilled,” the victim said Wednesday. “I don’t know if he remembers me, but I sure as heck remember him and he deserves to pay for what he did.” According to court documents filed with the charges, the victim, who was 44 at the time, told police that she had just returned to her residence in the 700 block of E. 27th Terrace when a man armed with a knife came up behind her and shoved her through the front door.
